A living hell

My skin is a living hell. I know everyone has to deal with their personal problems, but in so doing we're all entitled to complain a little bit right? I don't know what is going on, but my skin over the past couple months especially has been really hard to live in. Winter? I have always had eczema, but I don't ever remember it being this bad. The last 3 nights I'm not sure if I've even slept. No rest makes for one grumpy girl. I took for granted the days that I could fall asleep the minute I laid down. Now I feel like I have insomnia. There are a number of things that make exzema flare up and all of them are things I dabble in- I have to LIVE! Let me list a few: amimal dander(pets), sweat (working out), hot water (baths, hot tubs), sun (summer), anything with fragrance (detergent, perfume), make-up, tight clothing, weather (season change), etc. I have gone to extremes to try and get it under control and I feel like the more things I try the worse it gets. Let me list a few things I've tried: Pretty much any lotion, cream, corticosteroids, ointment, (Marens suggestion) sleeping with socks on my hands, taking Benadryl, sleeping pills, using a humidifier, allergen barrier for my mattress, Ed got me an oatmeal bath last night...NOTHING WORKS!! I'm losing my sanity. I'll try anything! Please help! I won't even post a picture...it's not a pretty picture.

Hey you know what I know this is a last ditch effort but I actually read that exzema can manifest because of a food allergy, particularly dairy. So.. I know it sucks but you could try cutting out dairy, or write down what you eat and try and match it to when it flares. And contrary to popular belief you can suddenly become allergic to anything even if you've eaten (or taken) it for years! I hope this helps!! Love ya.

I empathize with you on the insomnia thing. When I was prego with Jett I went weeks with only getting a hour or two of sleep here and there. Ever since, I pray that I can fall asleep when I go to bed. It's the worst feeling in the whole world to be laying in bed as the hours go by and you're still wide awake. I did everything, especially in the middle of the night to figure out the best way to sleep. I even paid for some random guaranteed ways online. What helps me now is having a air purifier in my room. I listen to the hum of it and it really helps. Also going to bed BEFORE my husband. If he goes to bed before or at the same time I do, I'm always annoyed that he's asleep in seconds and I lay there peeved that he's snoozing away and that keeps me awake too.

For the exzema thing. My little Sky had THE WORST exzema. Her little wrists and creases at the elbow of her arm were always red, bleeding and she would just itch away at them constantly. I tried the same things as you and it would help but it NEVER went away completely. Until.... my pediatrician gave her a prescription for mometasone furoate cream. She doesn't have a trace of it any more, even in this dry weather. I put it on once and it lasted forever and every now and then I'll see just a tiny trace of it and I immediately put it on. I've used so little of it, it's amazing. She doesn't have the nagging, itching, red, bleeding spots all over her. Good luck with that.

Don't you love being a mom? :)

hey lindsay... i too have ezema. .... except it hasnt been bad at all since i moved to cali.. something about the humidity here. My feet used to bleed bc i'd be scratching all night. The best thing i found to do was
1) take a bath to soften skin
2) Apply thick Layer of pure lanilon cream on my feet
3) put socks on and go to bed
4) in the am, take off the socks and do it all again.

I swear this helps. the worst part is the itching.

My sister had a little boy with really bad exzema (almost blisters), she had to cut out all dye's in his food's and in products(lotions, soups, detergent, shampoo's- anything with dyes or fragrance). Her last shot, after all steroids and medicine, was a lotion called Hemp. You can only find it in salon's and I think they have a face lotion, and it actually (miracle!), has almost all together taken away his exzema after living with it for years! She still has to cut out all fragances and dye's and has switched to almost all seventh generation and method products (if you don't know what they are, you should). Hope this helps.
