Time

I'm having an issue with time these days. I feel so much pressure (caused by myself) to do so many things throughout the day. I feel so torn between reading, TV, emailing, blogging, cleaning, playing with Sarah, exercising, journaling, scrapbooking, socializing, organizing...etc. I'm sure you all struggle with balancing all of these things as well. I was thinking I would try my darnedest to break up my time into hours and make sure I split it all up by only allowing myself an hour of blogging a day, and hour of exercise, and so on, but I'm looking for any ideas for ways that you all balance out your time.

I was also thinking about the way time has changed things. It used to be that I got together with someone to communicate and visit. Visiting in person turned to a phone call now and then. A phone call turned into a personal letter or email/text to someone. And now even personal emailing is disappearing and now it's a blogging world where the mind set is, "I'm too busy to talk/type/write. If you want to see what is going on in my life come and look at my blog." It's convenient and saves time, but for what? More time to be lazy and watch TV or be introvert? Nothing will replace talking to someone face to face. I fear the world will slowly be socially impaired if we keep this up. I am a culprit for sure!!

so as far as not spending too much time on blogging... if you haven't already, sign up for feeds to all your friends' and familys' blogs on goodle reader and then you can check google reader ONCE a day and it tells you which blogs have been updated, so you don't have to click through your whole list. maybe you already know this wonderful little secret, though. :)

i like to pick days and times of day for everything. i always know i'm going to do my laundry on monday and thursday, i try to write journal and blog posts on sundays (though i hardly ever write in my journal like i should), i always go running in the morning and then check my e-mails and blogs during the kids naps, though i know you don't have the luxury of long nap time yet (hang in there!).

i think it's about priorities, too, though. maybe it's not so important to watch that episode of grey's anatomy tonight (heaven forbid!). also, try multitasking... scrapbook and socialize at the same time. and most importantly, don't feel bad if you don't get it all done... no one does.

wow, sorry this is totally a novel, but it was partly to remind me, too. :) oh and you are SO right about personal time getting replaced by chatting, texting and blogging. sad.

Ok. I have to quote what you said: "reading, TV, emailing, blogging, cleaning, playing with Sarah, exercising, journaling, scrapbooking, socializing, organizing." Girl, you should be thanking the stars in Heaven that those are the decisions you have to make with your time! I WISH those were the things I had to choose from! :)

Every morning, I decide to do all of the important things first, like reading my scriptures, playing with my kids, cleaning my house, making dinner and working out. Then I can spend the rest of the day doing whatever I want without guilt.

What actually happens is I get up in the morning and say "I'll just check my email, it will only take a second." and then I am on autopilot and when I turn around, it's 4:30, the kids have been watched 101 Dalmatians 14 times today, my house is a disaster and I have no idea what to make for dinner. I make a half hearted attempt to clean, throw my kids outside to play and serve a block of cheese for dinner.

I agree I think that our generation is slowly becoming socially retarded because they don't ever have to communicate wth people, they just type, text, email, etc. and I think it will get worse as time goes by, but you just have to make sure you don't become that way and then I wouldn't worry about anyone else. By the way I love those pictures of Sarah she looks so pretty, what a cute little baby face!

i'm with courtney - get the stuff you "have to do" first. make sure the necessities are taken care of and then it makes the fun things even sweeter.

I definitely see your point. This time management thing is not easy. So many things to choose from. I like Whitney's advice. I think I'm might do it myself, set specific times to do things. The real challenge will be sticking to those times.

By the way, I see you just about every day and I think you do a fantastic job first and foremost as a mother. You are so great with Sarah and so good to your husband. Those are the most important things and as long as you are doing well in these areas I think you are a success.

I am TERRIBLE at managing time, you know that already but I could definitely learn from YOU! You are really good at it!! And yeah I agree about the whole communication breakdown, I often wonder what will be next, you know? I mean I sure don't remember texting in high school!! WEIRD to think that huh?

AMEN SISTER! You know I have these days a lot, and what helps is taking a day (ok maybe a few hours) away from it all and just not doing anything...by yourself, then you get bored and then you realize you enjoy your hectic schedule, ha ha ha. But no, I do agree with you. Our world sure is different than even 10 yrs ago.
